The Cost Of Each Ping

In “Inbox Detox,” Marsha Egan calculates the cost of not being focused at work. Each time we get distracted, it costs us four minutes on an average to recover from that interruption. This means that if the computer pings 30 times, and we turn to look at the arrival of an e-mail each time, we would lose as much as 120 minutes a day.
