Before the Internet was invented, newspapers had one-way conversations with their readers and the reader’s interaction with the paper was limited to Letters to the Editor.

With the advent of Web 1.0, when the print industry reproduced its primary product, the newspaper itself, online, a two-way conversation or a dialogue began in the form of comments.

Web 2.0 enabled newspapers to become forums that fostered a society of readers, who talked among themselves about stuff that appeared in the e-paper.
