Kid-Unfriendly Textbooks

The details of the school textbooks I read as a toddler, back in India, have faded from memory. I don’t remember their titles, author names, dimensions, or colors.

But their attributes have coalesced into an impressionistic mosaic of frowzy covers and flimsy spines, which always made the books vulnerable to accelerated wear and tear; dull and difficult textual explanations of concepts that made learning itself a challenge; and smudgy diagrams and illustrations.

Far from drawing a kid into the book, they put them to sleep.
