While It Lasted

Mostly, we remember “endings.” A beloved brand closed. A correspondence stopped. A job went away. A relationship broke. We also remember how they ended, usually, on a binary note of happy or sad.

When we reflect on them, we find ourselves to be puzzling, agonizing, stewing, sobbing, or laughing over them, even missing them. But rarely do we pause to wonder how we experienced them while they lasted.
