That’s Not Love. That’s Limerence.

Crush. Attraction. Love. Lust. Fling. Affair. Liaison. One-night stand. All of these describe various states of romantic engagement. Add to that, “limerence,” a word coined in 1979, by the American psychologist, Dorothy Tennov.

A limerent has an obsessive need to have the the object of his or her limerence reciprocate his or her feelings. Unable to focus on work, he or she spends his or her time writing love letters or diaries, and is consumed with the desire to get as much information about them, through means fair or foul.
