Not Quite In Shape

When astronauts spend a prolonged period of time in space, their hearts change shape, becoming spherical by a factor of 9.4 percent. In low-gravity, as the organ doesn’t have to work as hard, it loses muscle mass.

The new study by NASA is based on an analysis of the cardiac data of a dozen astronauts who’ve worked at the International Space Station.
