Spritz is a new speed-reading app that promises to accelerate your reading by flashing the key words of a text. One letter in each word is colored red.
Is it reading, though?
Research in the 1970s showed that as the speed of a text increases, the ability to understand what you read falls rapidly. Reason: There isn’t enough time for the brain to process all the data that’s whizzing past your eyes.
One reads with an intent to comprehend, reflect and ruminate. Spritzing is reading with an eye only toward completion and nothing beyond.
Hi Alakanda. That is a frightening clip!
I’m all in favour of e-books and all sorts of e-channels, but that?
No, no!
Thanks for sharing

Brian: I couldn’t agree more with you. This app is certainly scary. I have a feeling it won’t catch on, though there’s been an overwhelming reception to it.

Related: some schools (in the US, I think) are experimenting not to teach how to write. Longhand. Read yes. Type on a keyboard yes. But not with a pen.
Scarier isn’t it?
