The Hummus & Pita Co. serves an oxymoron: healthy fast food. But Mediterranean casual fare is just that. It’s not greasy, has a fresh snap to it, and is relatively quickly prepared.
On quite a few occasions, we’d walked past its store, opened recently, in Union Square, relishing bites of free samples of hummus, pita and falafel in tiny plastic cups. We’d liked what we had.
So, the past Sunday, we decided to check out the menu. But as we hadn’t taken enough time to order wisely, we ended up eating what we’d tasted earlier: a bowl of hummus, pita, and falafel. Only, this time around, we had them in stoneware bowls.
The place is casual, friendly, bright, and has the added bonus of space, a feature lacking in most Manhattan eateries. The eco-enthusiast will pleasantly remark that all its tables are handmade, with reclaimed wood from bowling lanes.
