And Off We Go In A Balloon

Word View 1Soon, an Arizona-based private space company, World View, will be able to gently fly space-enthusiasts to the edge of space—not in a rocket, but in a balloon.

Did that sound steampunk? Jules Verne-ish?

A giant balloon will lift a capsule, carrying six passengers—whom it calls “voyagers”—and a two-member crew, and take them on a luxury, five-hour, suborbital cruise 20 miles (or 100, 000 feet) up, where they’ll float under a parafoil. From that vantage, they’ll see the Earth’s curvature and the blackness of space.

A ticket will cost $75,000. The trips would launch before dusk, from Spaceport America, in Roswell, New Mexico.
