Ride A Diamond Necklace To Space?

A team of scientists at Pennsylvania State University, led by John V. Badding, has discovered a new wonder raw material that may be the strongest yet made.

“Diamond nanothread” is, in essence, a chain of astonishingly tiny diamond crystals, strung together in a very long necklace, so skinny that it makes a strand of human hair look obese.

As it’s extraordinarily stiff, sturdy, and light, it could be employed in making cables that would make possible the construction of a space elevator, so far, only a science-fictional technology.
