One of the hardest snowstorms to wallop this neck of the woods, hit around Christmas, in 1947. The snow fell and fell, steadily and silently.

By the time it abated, the city was buried under 26.4 inches of a white mound. That blizzard set a record, until it was broken 59 years later, in February, 2006, when the city was blanketed under a deposit of 26.9 inches.
