Amazon is taking the phrase, “at the touch of a button,” quite literally. It’s offering its Prime members, branded buttons, with which they can wirelessly order household goods when they’re running low on supplies.
The Dash Button, about the size of a pack of gum, changes color from white to green to indicate that the order has been placed.
This, for instance, is the Tide button. Likewise, there’s a Gillette button, a Huggies button, a Glad button, a Bounty button, and a few others. More are on the way.
As they come with both adhesive and hooks, they can be stuck to any appliance or hung on the wall.
Whether or not this is the future of online shopping, it certainly jibes with what 20th century science-fiction envisioned the future to be like: luxury, at the push of a button.
