Hop On The “Hoverboard”

The Lexus-made SLIDE.

The R&D division of the luxury carmaker, Lexus, has brought into reality a science-fictional transport, featured in “Back to the Future II” (1989): the “hoverboard,” which is a floating skateboard that has no wheels.

The device, known as SLIDE, relies on magnetic levitation to achieve lift. The catch is that it can only glide over a concrete surface that has a layer of metal beneath it.

This vehicle, which has only appeared in a teaser, so far, could be a small step in the direction of cars that skim the roads.
