1,284 More Planets Fall Out Of The Sky

In its quest for Earth-like planets outside our solar system, Kepler, NASA’s planet-hunting telescope, has found 1,284 new planets.

Nine of these orbit in their star’s “Goldilocks Zone”—the region around a star that’s neither too hot, nor too cold for water to exist in a liquid state.

Update: As of March 8, 2018, the tally of exoplanets discovered so far, stands at 3,743 (and counting.)
