The U.S. is seeing an uptick in Internet speeds.
For the first time, average download speeds exceeded 50 Mbps this year—a milestone that makes it nearly 1,000 times faster than a dial-up connection. (Netflix recommends a speed of 25 Mbps to stream UHD videos.)
Upload speeds improved as well, to an average of 18.88 Mbps, making Skype and FaceTime calls much smoother.
Comcast Xfinity offered the fastest download speeds; Verizon Fios, the fastest upload speeds. (This is among subscribers who pay for faster service.)
