If, in the far future, a planetary tourism board is set up, then it could promote Europa—the smallest of Jupiter’s four Galilean moons—as a top destination for ice-fishing.
As a Minnesota lake is frozen solid on the surface in winter, but has flowing water beneath, so under Europa’s thick, icy hide is a vast reservoir of liquid water, which holds twice and even thrice the volume of the water in all our oceans put together.
This makes it a strong candidate for harboring extraterrestrial life.
Sometime in the near future, NASA plans to send the Europa Clipper to conduct an in-depth study of that moon.
It would be fantastic if they did! We might discover stuff we never thought of on Europa!
